We’re celebrating National Activity Providers Association NAPA’s Arts in Care Homes Week 18-24 September culminating in the National Day of Arts in Care Homes.

The aim is to champion, promote and encourage arts engagement in care settings and highlight the health and wellbeing benefits for all involved.

Our good news is we have been awarded GrandNanny’s 2023 Intergenerational Innovation award, in recognition of our hard work to reconnect communities across the generations.

At The Together Project we have various intergenerational activities all designed to bring together at least two different age groups who might not normally come into regular contact, with a focus on fun and friendship.

In 2022, ‘We are Friends’ (funded by Waltham Forest Council) successfully bridged the gap between some of Waltham Forest’s youngest and oldest residents.

When given the opportunity to interact, individuals of different generations bond over both their differences, as well as their similarities. Our projects provide that opportunity - allowing older individuals to reveal their many strengths, and in doing so, a mutual respect develops which challenges ageism.

Let’s start with a story of friendship. Meet Iris (aged 89) and Heath (aged 6).

We are Friends was created with a lofty aim - to build meaningful relationships between generations through multi-age shared learning (with a special focus on storytelling).

Music for Dementia and UK Music have joined forces to publish a new report which outlines a blueprint to use music to help improve the nation’s health and wellbeing, and includes a series of ambitious but achievable recommendations.

Last September, we received news that brought a smile to everyone’s face - our Songs & Smiles project was to reach new people. After 18 months of quiet - when our in-person events were on pause thanks to the pandemic - Guinness Care provided funding to bring our sessions into three of their retirement housing schemes. In January they added a further two settings.
